Curt Matter developed guidelines for each of the five assignments fromwhich students could choose. These are the guidelines he expected students to follow if they assumed the persona of a flood victim and wrote a letter to a government official. Embedded in the guidelines are the different areas of learning that Matter wants to assess.


GUIDELINES:
"Letter From A Flood Victim"


Your home has suffered severe damage from the flooding of the Pond Creek flood plain. You are writing a letter to county government. Be sure that you:

A. Identify the county government agency or individual to whom you're writing.

B. Explain topographic features that contributed to the flooding.

C. Explain how you believe humans modifying the environment contributed to the flooding.

D. Describe economic consequences of past/future decisions to modify the environment.

E. Make recommendations to reduce future flood damage.

F. State clearly what you want done and your future plans.
