Scoring Guide for "Letter from a Flood Victim"
Before they began their chosen assignmenst, Matter's students received a
"rubric" that told them what they were expected to accomplish
and how the assignment would be graded. The rubric echoed the standards
that undergirded the activity.
Matter then developed a "scoring guide" on which he assigned points
for each of the expectations included in the rubric. Matter developed a
rubric and scoring guide for each of the five assignments. Here's the scoring
guide for "Letter from a Flood Victim."
- Accurately identifies him/herself as Pond Creek Flood Plain victim
(5 pt).
- Accurately identifies county government official/agency to whom letter
is written.(5 pt.)
- Writer clearly states purpose of letter. (10 pt.)
- Writer accurately explains topographical features. (10 pt.)
- Writer accurately explains human modifications. (10 pt.)
- Writer accurately explains economic consequences of modifications..
(10 pt.)
- Writer states reasonable recommendations to reduce future flooding..
(10 pt.)
- Letter expresses realistic emotions and feelings of flooded homeowners..
(10 pt.)
- Letter includes summary statement in closing paragraph.. (10 pt.)
- Letter is written in acceptable letter format. (5 pt).
- Letter is written in sentences. (5 pt).
- Sentences are organized into paragraphs. (5 pt).
- Writer utilizes correct grammar and language mechanics.. (10 pt.)
- Letter is legible. (5 pt).
- Total (110 points)
